Globe City gallery presents thirtyone, the first solo presentation of work by North East based artist Dan Civico. The exhibition features new and existing works, including an ambitious thirty-one day performance in which the artist will create a series of 31 chairs, visible in the gallery via a live web-stream. This durational piece will be presented alongside delicate light sculpture and video projections.
Employing materials now synonymous with the commercially designed object such as stainless steel, formica and plywood and adopting methods of industrial fabrication, thirtyone presents a series of chairs that appear to be mass produced items. However Civico’s beautifully produced, minimal structures experiment with the act of creation and the execution of craftsmanship as performance, whilst challenging traditional perceptions about form and function.
